37th PLEA Conference

(Re)thinking resilience

Let us (re)think together to be an instrument for a change and to make a significant difference together.

PLEA Association is an organization engaged in a worldwide discourse on sustainable architecture and urban design through annual international conferences, workshops and publications. It has created a community of several thousand professionals, academics and students from over 40 countries. Participation in PLEA activities is open to all whose work deals with architecture and the built environment, who share our objectives and who attend PLEA events.

37th PLEA Conference on Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design for the first time will take place in Poland! We will welcome all participants in the heart of Europe, at Wrocław to discuss the most actual and urgent topics related to the role of the built environment in the climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Welcome to the first PLEA Conference in central Europe, at Wroclaw, Poland!

student design workshops

We are happy to announce that the PLEA 2024 conference is supplemented with a one-day Instant Climate Hub – on-site student design workshops. Running through the day of the 26th of June 2024, it takes place at the local Faculty of Architecture and aims at envisioning its sustainable future.

We cordially invite passionate students of design faculties to enroll and take part in this unique one-day think-tank.

The Instant Climate Hub is an improvised, temporary, international design think-tank made for one day within the PLEA 2024 conference framework. The Hub, fueled by students’ input with tutors’ support, is created to make the participants more aware of sustainable research and development and, consequently, of possibilities to solve climate issues through smart and resilient design.

The application deadline is the 3rd of May 2024, 23:59 CEST.

You will find more information here.

FINAL PAPERS SUBMISSIONS

Deadline - extended till April 25

We are thrilled to inform you that we just started preparing PLEA 2024 proceedings.
Some of you received Editor’s request to introduce small amendments in your final submissions before the end of March. We extend the deadline for final paper submissions until April 25 (the same deadline applies for late registrations and any pending fees).
No further extension will be possible.

In-person Participants are kindly requested to inform organizers by e-mail about any dietary restrictions and allergies by April 25.

You are also invited to register to the Gala Dinner (in ConfTool) which will take place in iconic Museum of Architecture on 27 June, 20.00.

Scientific Committee announced review results. Authors of accepted long papers are invited to submit the final version of 6-page papers for37th PLEA Conference for Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design.

You can download your presentation template HERE. Before preparing your presentation, please wait for the Scientific Committee decision if your presentation is long or short (it is an equivalent of poster presentation since there will be no poster session to limit the environmental impact from printing poster and due to the hybrid character of the conference). The authors will be notified by the end of March.

There is no need to submit the presentation now, we will ask you to send them in June.

Submission should present new, original research that focuses on ONE of the six tracks:

  1. Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design – together for climate resilience
  2. Architecture for human resilience and well-being (including e.g., biophilic design, nature-based solutions, climate adaptation strategies for buildings and spaces)
  3. Analysis and methods for resilience and sustainability (e.g., new design and simulation tools, evaluation methods)
  4. Re-thinking resilience through renovations and adaptations of buildings and spaces (including cultural and natural heritage retrofitting, methods to improve performance of existing buildings and spaces)
  5. Building resilience with innovation and technology (e.g., innovative materials and sustainable technologies)
  6. Together we can – think, learn, teach and take the leadership (e.g., education and training, environmental activism)

We have received an impressive number of long papers, most of them representing very high quality. PLEA 2024 will open the floor for top class presentations, exciting discussions, technical sessions. Please meet our amazing KEYNOTE SPEAKERS and learn about our hosting city WROCŁAW and the Conference venue.

We are thrilled to announce that Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE) will review the best papers written by Master Students and PhD Candidates to select the bests of the bests and grant Jeffrey Cook Student Travel Award for PLEA 2024. The papers will be nominated by the PLEA 2024 Scientific Committee, no action from the authors is required at this point. Self-nominations are not accepted. If your paper is selected by SBSE, we will contact you by e-mail.

Please note that all contributions must strictly follow the instructions in FINAL PAPER TEMPLATE (download above).

We expect to receive final version of your long papers by 25 April 2024. The only acceptable format for this conference is the 6-page paper that must be prepared in PLEA 2024 Final Paper Template (download above). Remember that final paper submission must be made through the PLEA2024 event management system https://plea2024.pl/conftool

Please note that no guarantees can be given for oral presentation of a paper until the receipt of the final version of long paper and its final approval by the Scientific Committee. Completed registration of at least one participant per each paper is mandatory. If the paper is prepared solely by the students or PhD candidates, all authors are automatically eligible for discount. If the paper is developed by a research team (including mixed teams with students / PhD Candidates / junior and senior researchers / supervisors etc.), at least 1 full payment is required for such team (it does make any difference who is the first author and who will present the paper). The registration of the first person in the team always entails “full registration payment” (in person or on-line, early bird discount applies, student/PhD discounts do not apply for the research teams) and the second depends on the status of the participant (students’ discount apply for the second, and third registered person representing the team). Please note that the registration payments must be received as on invoice. If Banking/PayPall costs were deducted from the invoiced amount, our financial department will contact you with an exact information on the amount that still needs to be covered.

All approved final versions of long papers will be published on a USB-memory stick handed out with the conference documents at PLEA 2024. Authors are fully responsible for their papers, which should not have been published elsewhere. They must have taken the necessary steps to obtain permission for using any material that might be protected by copyright. The publication of long paper requires your registration at the PLEA 2024 Conference in Wrocław. For each accepted paper, at least one presenting author has to register for conference participation, otherwise the contribution will not be considered in the conference proceedings.
