37th PLEA Conference

(Re)thinking resilience

Let us (re)think together to be an instrument for a change and to make a significant difference together.

PLEA Association is an organization engaged in a worldwide discourse on sustainable architecture and urban design through annual international conferences, workshops and publications. It has created a community of several thousand professionals, academics and students from over 40 countries. Participation in PLEA activities is open to all whose work deals with architecture and the built environment, who share our objectives and who attend PLEA events.

37th PLEA Conference on Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design for the first time will take place in Poland! We will welcome all participants in the heart of Europe, at Wrocław to discuss the most actual and urgent topics related to the role of the built environment in the climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Welcome to the first PLEA Conference in central Europe, at Wroclaw, Poland!

Call for abstracts - extended deadline

In response to multiple requests and taking into consideration the holiday season, we have extended the deadline for abstract submission until 30 August 2023. The reviewing process will start in the first days of September so we would like to kindly ask the members of PLEA 2024 Scientific Committee to save their time and be ready to provide reviews in 3-4 weeks from the abstract submission deadline. Due to the time limitations further extension of the abstract submission deadlines will not be possible. Nevertheless, we hope to receive valuable and important input form the researchers and practitioners from the whole world.

PLEA 2024 Conference Team would like to address this particularly warm invitation to the new PLEA Associates appointed a couple of weeks ago. Please join us during PLEA 2024 in Wrocław and help to increase understanding promote the holistic vision of sustainable architecture and urban design.

We announce the 2nd call for abstracts for the 37th PLEA Conference for Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design and we invite you to submit your extended abstracts in the following research tracks:

  1. Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design – together for climate resilience
  2. Architecture for human resilience and well-being (including e.g., biophilic design, nature-based solutions, climate adaptation strategies for buildings and spaces)
  3. Analysis and methods for resilience and sustainability (e.g., new design and simulation tools, evaluation methods)
  4. Re-thinking resilience through renovations and adaptations of buildings and spaces (including cultural and natural heritage retrofitting, methods to improve performance of existing buildings and spaces)
  5. Building resilience with innovation and technology (e.g., innovative materials and sustainable technologies)
  6. Together we can – think, learn, teach and take the leadership (e.g., education and training, environmental activism)

In addition to the plenary and general sessions, the conference will also offer two Technical Sessions:

  1. Architectural education & urgency of climate action
  2. Bio-based materials and nature-based solutions
We expect to receive your abstracts until 30 August 2023. The only acceptable format for this conference is the 2-page extended abstract that must be prepared in PLEA 2024 Template (download above). Remember that abstract submission must be made through the PLEA2024 event management system https://plea2024.pl/conftool

It is important to keep in mind that by submitting an abstract authors agree that if their paper is selected, at least one of them will have to attend the PLEA 2024 Conference. The selected papers will be published in the book of proceedings which will be distributed during the Conference. This event has been planned as an on-site and on-line event. But if the process of overcoming the pandemic has yet not been completed by early 2024, it might turn into an online event. We hope it will not happen, but you will be notified in advance as soon as this can be determined.
